Description

Water-borne, alkali-resistant, water-repellent silicone resin coating. Maximum grain size approx. 1.5 mm.

Product Features

Suitable for plain concrete substrates and rendered surfaces of concrete, masonry and mineral-based building boards.

Recommended Uses

Residential, commercial, industrial and storage buildings and others.

Coverage

Applied with a spatula: 2.5–3 kg/m². Sprayed: 1.5–3.5 kg/m². Coverage is affected by the roughness and porosity of the surface, the desired appearance and the working conditions.

Storage

Must be protected from frost. The product or container temperature must not exceed + 35°C. Not to be stored in direct sunlight even covered. Tinted or poorly sealed coating or coating stored in half empty container, does not withstand long-term storage.

Application Conditions

The surface to be treated must be dry, the ambient temperature at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of air below 80%. Do not treat under strong sunlight.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces: The surface must be sufficiently dried and hardened before the treatment. It is recommended that you treat concrete element surfaces at the earliest after one heating period, according to the structure. New plaster surfaces must be dry and hardened before painting. The drying and hardening time depends, among other things, on the consistency of the plaster used (such as the ratio of lime and cement), drying and hardening conditions and the thickness of the plaster layer. Clean the unpainted surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. If a surface has mold, moss etc., wash it with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto (Mold Removal) according to instructions, working from the bottom to the top. Concrete surfaces that have been cast with formwork must be treated mechanically (e.g. sand-blasted) to create an appropriate surface profile. Any glassy and glossy cement stone can be removed from the concrete surface using sand-blasting, a grinding stone for grinding concrete or pressure cleaning with added sand. Sand-blasted or uneven concrete substrates (e.g. timber-cast surfaces) must be leveled with Finnseco Polytop mortar or Finnseco Leveling Render. Previously painted surface: Surfaces are cleaned by removing any dirt, dust or salt. If a surface has mold, moss etc., wash it with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto (Mold Removal) according to instructions, working from the bottom to the top. Remove any flaking, poorly adhering or powdery paint coats from previously painted surfaces. Choose the removal method according to strength of the substrate and type of paint to be removed (e.g. wire brush, pressure washing with hot water or wet sand-blasting). Also remove any poorly adhered, fragile areas of plaster or concrete. In concrete structures, open any cracks over the reinforcement steel bars by chiseling or with an edge grinder, etc. Clean the bars of rust at least to class St 2 and continue treatment with Finnseco repair mortars. Sand-blasted concrete surfaces with a lot of porous and uneven concrete substrates are recommended to be leveled with Finnseco Polytop mortar or Finnseco Leveling Render. When handling a surface containing asbestos, the Government Decision on Asbestos Work (1380/1994) and the related Decrees 318/2006 and 863/2010 must be followed.

Painting

First coat:

The coating is spread with a steel trowel or cellular rubber spatula or by plaster spray gun. Depending on the absorbent capacity of the substrate and the working conditions, the surface can be troweled with a Tikkurila plastic float approx. 5–15 minutes. Note! Finngard Silicone Resin Coating is stirred comprehensively before use. For achieving a uniform surface and avoiding color differences, reserve enough paint from the same production batch. If it is necessary to use different production batches, paint the area between the old and new batch with a 1:1 mix of the old and new paint. Arrange the work so that the transition between areas coated at different times and using different cans is as inconspicuous as possible. Wipe any spatter immediately from windows, or protect the windows before starting work.

Maintenance Painting:

For maintenance painting of Finngard Silicone Resin Coating, use Finngard Silicone Resin Paint or sprayed Finngard Silicone Resin Coating. See Pretreatment, Priming and Coating.

Maintenance Instructions

Dirty surfaces can be carefully washed with a pressure washer without any detergent no earlier than one month after painting. The washing may leave permanent marks on the surface, so the area to be washed should be designed inconspicuously following the lines of the structure. Clean dry, loose dirt lightly with a soft brush, without rubbing the surface. Remove alga or mold with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto (Mold Removal) and rinse thoroughly. NB. Surfaces must always be retreated after mold removal.

VOC

(cat A/c) max. 40g/l (2010). Finngard Silicone Resin Coating contains VOC max. 40g/l.

Excellent water repellency, extremely good water vapor permeability

The excellent water repellency and water vapor permeability of the silicone resin coating ensure that structures remain dry.

Long maintenance treatment interval

Finngard Silicone Resin Coating is a durable facade paint that lengthens the maintenance painting interval.

Harmonious colors

Finngard Silicon Resin Coating is tinted with Avatint Facade tinting colorants.
