partly bio-based Harmon Care

Paint a more sustainable future with partly bio-based Harmony Care

Introducing Harmony Care, our first partly bio-based interior wall paint with eco-certification.

“For Tikkurila, sustainability is not just a trend but the driving force in our product development – and it has been for decades already”, explains Heidi Helkamo, Tikkurila Group’s RDI Manager for Interior products. We work continuously to improve our paint and decided to tackle the challenge of creating a bio-based paint with the same premium quality as our other products, because we do not compromise with neither premium result nor sustainability.

Premium quality, less fossil content
Tikkurila bio-based interior paint Harmony Care

In Harmony Care >> the main component after water, the binder, is partly bio-based. 30 % of the fossil raw materials have been replaced with bio-based ingredients: ”The bio-based content comes from plants, seeds or agricultural waste, and may vary depending on availability”, Heidi Helkamo describes. Helkamo has been closely involved in the product development process of Harmony Care and explains that this optimal percentage of bio-content for interior paints allows to keep high level painting properties and surface durability. So, just like the Harmony you already know and love but with less fossil content.

Harmony Care is a very sustainable premium product with very high quality and performance, and it has all the same good properties as Harmony has”, Helkamo says. Just like Harmony, Harmony Care creates a beautiful effect of velvet on your indoor walls and any colour you choose comes out soft and deep. The full-matt finish creates a harmonious and serene atmosphere and works especially great with bedrooms and living spaces. Try it out with soft, earthy colours or deep, dark and strong colours – our favourites for this season are L447 Sepal, Y458 Merino and Ficus N378.

Painting a bigger picture

Launching Harmony Care is an important step on our journey towards the future of paint. “In the next generations of paint, we will use all our know-how on how to make durable and low-emitting, eco-labeled paints and find ways to decrease their carbon footprint even further”, Heidi Helkamo describes Tikkurila’s future endeavours. In addition to paint development, we are strongly focused on developing our packaging to a more sustainable direction. With Harmony Care the package is made up to 75 % of recycled plastic to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the product.
