Barn painted in black

Popular blogger Varpunen, Susanna Vento, gathered friends and family to paint the barn in their summer place to give the barn a powerful black colour with Teho oil paint.

Barn before and after

"When it comes to the black, I must say that after experimenting with four different shades, I have finally found the perfect black. Some colours had a clear blueish hint, while others were too grey, and the base coat you select also affects the final result of colour. What I learnt about colours of paint is that a test painting really pays off, and you need to do it on a good sized area and look at the colour from different directions and at different times of the day".

Walls, windows, doors and the socle were given a new look

Susanna gave the wooden barn and its window frames a new look with paint. The facade of the wooden building went from shabby red to trendy black. The grey and white colours finish the harmonious look.

The barn stands on an old farm that belongs to Susanna’s family and welcomes the whole family every summer.  Susanna Vento together with her mother and sister were looking for a summer home and they found the farm with a large garden, a vegetable patch and a field in 2012. They have already done some work on the interior surfaces. This summer it was time to work on the barn facade: the wall surfaces, windows, doors and socle.

Teho oil paint has been on the market for decades, and it is suitable for a traditional landscape.

Putting the idea into practice

Painting a wood facade with Teho

1. WASH THE PAINTED SURFACE

The old, powder-like painted surface is washed with a garden hose and the dirt is brushed off with a broom.

2. WASH OFF ANY MOLD

If necessary, wash off any mold on the surface with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto mold removal according to the instructions on the label.

4. APPLY PRIMER

5. PRIME THE SURFACE

Use Öljypohja for the first coat. Öljypohja must be diluted 10% with white spirit. Öljypohja ensures that the finishing coat adheres well on the weathered, old wooden surface.

6. PAINT WITH TEHO

Use Teho oil paint for the second coat.
