DIY budget kitchen makeover

Updating your kitchen doesn’t need to cost a fortune. See how you can make a big impact by painting the ceramic backsplash and kitchen wall.

When looking for ideas to change the style of your dated kitchen, you might not need to look further than a can of paint. An easy, affordable and fast kitchen renovation can be done without changing the cabinets or tiles at all.

Before: Dated and basic

Dull, white cabinets with wooden colour details and a worn-out backsplash in this kitchen were in need of a makeover. Even with a limited budget, the kitchen was about to face a big change by simply applying some paint and installing new cabinet handles.

Tikkurila new Luja Ceramic Tiles paint is designed for easy and affordable tile makeovers for both kitchen and bathroom. The tile paint can be tinted to any shade in all Tikkurila interior colour collections, which gives unlimited colour option matching your kitchen cabinets and the rest of your interior style.

And while you've got your paintbrush out, why not paint the kitchen cabinets or walls as well?

Outcome nr.1: soft and cosy

Fresh, cosy and mellow – you might not even believe this kitchen to be the same. The backsplash was painted using Luja Ceramic Tiles in the soft blue shade L429 Indigo, and the wall in between the upper cabinets in J407 Siesta using Harmony CareTogether, the shades bring up almost a Mediterranean feel: the blue sea, colourful houses and the last rays of evening sunlight.

Changing the cabinet handles and painting the foot of the upper cabinets makes a big difference. While the backsplash gets a splash of colour, turning down extra tones of wood will balance the overall look. A modernised kitchen with little effort over just one weekend – what a successful diy project.

Outcome nr. 2: Fresh and modern

In this kitchen makeover option, the backsplash was given a fresh coat using Luja Ceramic Tiles in the same blue shade L429 Indigo, and the tile seams were afterwards worked on with a grout pen to change the colour into white. The upper corner was painted with muted beige, H462 Weekend.

The change from the millennium era, plain and weary kitchen to this modern, sharp, yet cosy and colourful space needed only a few layers of paint – and of course some creativity. The extensive colour selection of Luja Ceramic Tiles allows you to create any style you wish for: a colourful and restless backsplash into sleek and white, or a cold shade of grey into warm yellow or muted green.

Luja Ceramic Tiles is an easy-to-use tile paint, which doesn’t require a primer underneath. Now your outdated kitchen is just a few days away from a modernised look.
