The emerald-green shade was chosen using a large A4 color sample
Katja wanted the walls in her study to be a modern green in the M442 Fjord colour. Matt Joker interior paint was chosen for the walls. A surface painted with Joker is easy to wipe, and the product bears the Allergy and Asthma Federation’s symbol. The skirting boards, frames and shelves were painted with semi-matt Helmi Kalustemaali furniture paint, which produces a surface on which fingerprints are not so readily visible.
When you choose a Tikkurila interior paint and tint it with a shade from the Feel the Color colour card, you can be sure that the color you choose will look exactly the same in your home as it does on the color chip - in all lighting conditions.
Study before and after painting
The previously white study room was given an intense look with the Fjord shade, and the room is decorated with a daybed and a light workspace.
"I have long dreamed of a wall with a vibrant natural feel, in a deep, lush shade that brings a dark coniferous forest to mind. I can’t really pinpoint where this longing started, but I just remember thinking that Fjord was the exact shade as soon as I saw it." - Valkoisen vuoren rinteillä blogger Katja
Putting the idea into practice
If you want to recreate the blogger’s ideas in your home office, first pre-treat and prime your furniture (shelves and skirting). Then move on to pretreating and painting the wall. Once the wall is painted, continue with painting a topcoat on the furniture. Here’s how to give your workspace an easy makeover in just a couple of days.
Painting the wall
1. CLEAN AND PROTECT
Wipe the surface of the wall. If the surface is clearly dirty, clean it using Tikkurila’ Maalipesu cleaning agent following the instructions on the label. Leave to dry. Protect the floor with suitable paper before painting. Cover moldings and sockets with masking tape. f you had to level the wall surface or if the previous paint surface is dark in color, first apply a coat of Varma primer. Choose a shade of Varma primer that is close to the shade of the new topcoat.
2. PAINT
Stir the Joker interior paint and apply 2 coats to the wall. Jokeris recoatable within 1-2 hours of painting, so you can finish the wall in just a few hours.
Painting skirting boards and shelves
3. CLEAN, SAND AND PROTECT
Clean the surface of the furniture using Tikkurila Maalipesu cleaning agent and allow it to dry. Make sure you follow the instructions on the label. Sand the previous paint surface until matt and remove the sanding dust with a dust brush or a dust-binding cloth.
Apply a single coat of Helmi Pohjamaali (primer) to the furniture using a furniture paint roller or a brush. Leave to dry for 5 hours before painting a topcoat. Finish with 1-2 coats of semi-matt Helmi Kalustemaali. Helmi furniture paint is recoatable after 16 hours. Usable hardness is reached in 2-3 days.
