Heureka’s latest exhibition, The Power of Play, has been designed to remind us of the importance of play whatever your age – showing that a playful approach to the world is the basis for a happy life. The exhibition aims to encourage a life of playfulness by helping visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in the world of play. The Power of Play defends children’s right to be children and helps adults to find their inner child. It also aims to break the norms associated with play – everyone is encouraged to engage with all sorts of games and play, and there are no age restrictions.
The Power of Play is housed in the Pavilion of Play, where visitors will find games and fun based around the science of play. The exhibition comprises five varieties of play: silliness, creativity, adventure and exploration, daring, and caring. The exhibition has more than 20 different games and activities on themes including building a sense of community, strengthening creativity and outside-the-box thinking, letting go of prejudices, nourishing a desire to experiment, challenging limits, and playing together.
Supported by PPG Tikkurila
Tikkurila, now PPG Tikkurila acquired by PPG in 2021, was one of the founding partners of Heureka when it opened in 1989. For the Power of Play exhibition, PPG Tikkurila donated close to 100 gallons (364 litres) of TIKKURILA™ paint and related products, including Diccoplast Primer, Diccoplast 30, Dicco Color, Merit 30, Merit 80 and Temadur 20.
As well as the sizeable paint donation, PPG Tikkurila has also awarded Heureka a grant of €150,000 euros ($164,000) as part of a three-year partnership to support science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education. The grant will fund the exhibition and support colour workshops for young people.
"Heureka and PPG Tikkurila have many things in common, which makes Heureka a natural partner for us. We want to play a strong role in supporting science education, and Heureka offers an inspiring way to learn about science in a hands-on and interactive environment. We have been working together in many different ways since 1989, when Heureka was established in our neighbourhood in Tikkurila, Vantaa,” says Meri Vainikka, Managing Director at PPG Tikkurila.
This collaboration is part of PPG's community engagement efforts. PPG’s global community engagement efforts and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG communities around the world. We invested $16.2 million in 2022, supporting hundreds of organizations across more than 35 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in fields related to coatings and manufacturing. Plus, we empower PPG employees to multiply their impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving.
