Ovelus' interior panels are treated with Tikkurila's water-borne acrylic lacquers

The performance of Tikkurila's products, both in the factory and in practice, made Ovelus' surface treatment concerns history.

When a product is aimed at style-conscious interior designers and quality is important right down to the choice of raw materials, the surfaces have to be perfect to the very last touch. The successful cooperation between Ovelus and Tikkurila is the result of well-performing products in the surface treatment line, reliable delivery and good customer service.

Ovelus manufactures stylish panel solutions for interior walls and ceilings. Its innovative tongue-and-groove panel system is a utility model-protected product, so there are no comparable products from competitors. The solid wood panels and the mouldings between them are available in a range of colours.

Ovelus relies on Tikkurila's products for translucent products, re-coating, and wet-room panel surface treatment.

"We had significant problems with another supplier's exterior lacquer in the past. Their product did not pass the 'tape test' – when the protective tapes were removed after surface treatment, the lacquer also came off," says Hans Kiljunen, Founder of Ovelus.

Everything has, however, gone well with Tikkurila's products. The products used by Ovelus, from exterior lacquers to interior and wet-room lacquers, work well both in the factory and on site.

Tikkurila's acrylic lacquers guarantee a high-quality finish

Ovelus uses Tikkurila's Pinjalac HB 30 lacquer in wet rooms for rimmed panel products. Pinjalac HB 30 is a water-borne acrylic lacquer often used for exterior applications. However, it is also well suited to wet rooms, as it allows a thick wet film to be created without sagging. Is also dries quickly and adheres to the panel surface without problems.

For exterior panels and roof laths, Ovelus uses Tikkurila's Pinja Wood Stain, and for interior panels, Akvilac FD-J 10 lacquer. Akvilac FD-J 10 lacquer gives interior panels a beautiful matt finish that looks almost waxed.

The absolute trump card of Tikkurila's products is their good performance in the industrial application process. Ovelus' laths are finished in the Savitaipale technological moulding factory before they are delivered to the customer.

The Ovelus lath has a heavy upper part and a narrower base, which concentrates the weight in a narrower area when stacking. If the paint surface cannot withstand the pressure, the bottom of the lath will stick to the next surface and leave a mark. "Tikkurila's products are very resistant to stacking," says Hans Kiljunen.

Tikkurila's product works on the surface treatment line. The lacquer spreads well, dries quickly, and there is no risk of sticking. Preventing pieces from sticking together is very important for quality, as laths are stacked on top of each other waiting to be sorted and packaged.

Product safety is a common value

Ovelus products are always treated with water-borne, non-toxic paints, lacquers and wood preservatives. Technical performance increases the durability and service life of panel products while protecting the wood material from moisture, dirt and sunlight. "It is important for us to use safe products that also have a good durability," says Kiljunen of Ovelus.

Tikkurila's products meet this need well. In product development, Tikkurila always considers the environmental impacts of its products and painted surfaces throughout their entire lifecycle.

Pinjalac, Pinja Wood Stain and Akvilac are all water-borne products that are highly durable and protect surfaces in line with sustainability and environmental objectives.
