The new Havu and Taimi product families were launched at the 2022 Habitare fair. The pine furniture, designed and manufactured in Lapland, was the beautiful result of two companies from Ranua, the pine board glue factory ASWood and the furniture store Veke, joining forces.
"The idea started as a playful coffee table conversation, but it slowly started to develop into something concrete. Both companies had noticed that there were hardly any domestic manufacturers for wooden furniture. Veke bought a stake in ASWood, and we produced Veke's first own collections in the summer of 2022," says ASWood's CEO Antti Sarajärvi.
Reliability and domesticity are important criteria when painting wooden furniture
The Havu and Taimi products have also been accompanied by the Askel, Tyvi and Hermanni product families and the Kuulas coffee table. All the furniture is made from pine, which comes mainly from Northern Finland. For a company that values domesticity and responsibility, Tikkurila was a natural choice.
The colour design service helped to find the perfect shades
The main material of the furniture is pine glue board, which is treated with Tikkurila's water-borne Akvilac FD J-10 acrylate lacquer. The same lacquer is used in all product families of Veke's own collection manufactured by ASWood. The pine wooden furniture is available in understated, beautiful shades of sand and charcoal.
"We have benefitted greatly from Tikkurila's colour design service. We need custom shades that match our products perfectly, and Tikkurila was able to provide an excellent service for this. Their experts came to the factory to work with us, tested different colour options and made sure that the painting process was running smoothly," says Sarajärvi.
Recently, ASWood has also started manufacturing outdoor furniture, using Pinja W-Oil and Pinjalac HB 30 in the surface treatment. The cooperation with Tikkurila is also expanding to furniture primers and topcoats, for which the right colour shades are currently being sought.
The cooperation with Tikkurila has been seamless. If something has needed to be done or problems have arisen, for example with the correct application rates, a solution has always been found. The cooperation, which started in early 2022, looks set to continue for a long time.
