Description

Water-borne, alkali-resistant acrylic paint that protects concrete against humidity and carbonation. SILKO approved (3.253).

Product Features

Suitable for painting concrete structures, wallboards and surfaces rendered with a cement mortar.

Recommended Uses

Residential, commercial, industrial and storage buildings, parking garages, etc.

Coverage

Approx. 4–6 m²/l, one coat. Coverage is affected by the roughness and porosity of the surface as well as the painting method and conditions.

Thinner

Waterborne

Application Conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry, the ambient temperature at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of air below 80%. Do not paint in strong sunlight.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces: The substrate has to be sufficiently dry and hard before treatment. Among other things, the drying and curing time is affected by working conditions and the thickness of the plaster layer. Clean the unpainted surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. Surfaces with mold, moss etc. are cleaned with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto in accordance with the instructions. Smooth, glassy concrete surfaces must always be treated mechanically to create an appropriate surface profile and remove any laitance. Concrete surfaces with a lot of pores are recommended to be leveled with Finnseco Polytop mortar or Finnseco Leveling Render. Previously painted surface: Surfaces are cleaned by removing any dirt, dust or salt. Surfaces with mold, moss etc. are cleaned with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto in accordance with the instructions. Remove any flaking and poorly adhering paint coats. Select the removal method according to the strength of the substrate and paint type to be removed (e.g. wire brushing, pressure washing with hot water or wet sand-blasting). Carry out the necessary concrete repair, patching and filling using the Finnseco products as instructed.

Painting

First coat:

Apply two coats of the product. If needed, the paint can be thinned for priming up to 5% with water. For finishing, use unthinned paint. NOTE Stir Finngard 150 thoroughly before use. Reserve enough paint from the same production batch for a uniform surface. Should you need to use different production batches, paint the area between the old and new batch with a 1:1 mix of the old and new paint. Arrange the work such that the transition between the paint batches is as inconspicuous as possible. Uniform surfaces are painted without interruption. Follow the recommended coverage values to ensure that the paint provides sufficient protection. When handling a surface containing asbestos, the applicable act 684/2015 and Government Decree 798/2015 on asbestos work must be followed. Surfaces intended to be left unpainted must be protected for the duration of the work. Mechanical stresses can cause lighter marks, in particular with dark painted surfaces. This is a typical product feature of all matte facade paints which does not affect the technical functionality of the product.

Maintenance Painting:

Surfaces painted with Finngard 150 can be maintenance treated with Finngard 150, Finngard 500, Finngard Silikonihartsimaali, Finngard HybriSil, Finngard 1,5 H, Finngard 3,0 H and Finngard Silikonihartsipinnoite.

Maintenance Instructions

Dirty surfaces can be carefully washed with a pressure washer without any detergent no earlier than one month after the surface treatment. The washing may leave permanent marks on the surface, so the area to be washed should be designed inconspicuously following the lines of the structure. Clean dry, loose dirt lightly with a soft brush, without rubbing the surface. Remove alga or mold with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto (Mold Removal) and rinse thoroughly. NB. Surfaces must always be retreated after mold removal.
