Description

Inorganic, potassium-silicate-based one-component façade paint conforming to DIN 18363.

Product Features

Residential, commercial, industrial and storage buildings and others.

Recommended Uses

For interior and exterior painting of precast concrete, lime plaster, lime-cement plaster and sand-lime brick surfaces. Also suitable for surfaces previously treated with lime, lime-cement, cement and silicate paints.

Coverage

approx. 3-5 m²/l on one coat. Coverage is affected by the roughness and porosity of the surface as well as the application method and conditions.

Thinner

Waterborne

Application Method

spraying, brush, roller

Application Conditions

The surface to be painted must be clean, dry and solid and the temperature of the air and surface at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of the air below 80%. To avoid color differences, do not paint in strong sunlight or in the rain.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces: New concrete and plaster surfaces must be sufficiently dried and hardened before the surface treatment. Treat concrete element surfaces at the earliest after one heating period, according to the structure. Drying and hardening times depend on e.g. the composition of the rendering surface (e.g. lime-concrete ratio), on environmental conditions and on the thickness of the layer. Clean the unpainted surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. Surfaces with mold, moss etc. are cleaned with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto in accordance with the instructions. Smooth, glassy concrete surfaces must always be treated mechanically to create an appropriate surface profile and remove any laitance. Concrete surfaces with a lot of pores are recommended to be leveled with Finnseco Polytop mortar or Finnseco Leveling Render. Previously painted surface: Surfaces are cleaned by removing any dirt, dust or salt. Surfaces with mold, moss etc. are cleaned with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto in accordance with the instructions. Remove any flaking, chalky and poorly adhering paint coats. Select the removal method according to the strength of the substrate and paint type to be removed (e.g. wire brushing, pressure washing with hot water or wet sand-blasting). Carry out the necessary concrete repair, patching and filling using the Finnseco products as instructed. Make necessary plastering repairs with plasters suitable to the level and structure of the surrounding surface.

Painting

First coat:

Porous substrates: For porous and highly absorbent substrates, such as plaster or calcium-silicate brick surfaces, we recommend priming with a 1:1 mix of Tikkurila Silicate Primer and water, in accordance with the instructions for the use of this product. Intermediate painting can be done after the priming has set in, after 12 hours at the earliest. For intermediate painting, Finngard Silicate Paint can be thinned by a maximum of 10% Tikkurila Silicate Primer. Finishing can be done after the intermediate painting has set in, after 12 hours at the earliest. For finishing, Finngard Silicate Paint can be thinned by a maximum of 10% water. Solid substrates: For solid substrates, such as concrete, we recommend priming with a 1:2 mix of Tikkurila Silicate Primer and Finngard Silicate Paint. Finishing can be done after the intermediate painting has set in, after 12 hours at the earliest, using Finngard Silicate Paint, which can be thinned by a maximum of 10% water. NOTE Finngard Silicate Paint is stirred comprehensively before use. Reserve enough paint from the same production batch for uniform color surface. Should you need to use different production batches, paint the area between the old and new batch with a 1:1 mix of the old and new paint. Arrange the work so that the transition between the paint batches is as inconspicuous as possible. Uniform surfaces are painted without interruption. Surfaces intended to be left unpainted must be protected for the duration of the work. The variable porous structure of the surface to be painted and moisture and temperature variations during paint application and drying reaction may cause diversity of color. Mechanical stresses can cause lighter marks, in particular with dark painted surfaces. This is a typical product feature for all matte façade paints, which however has no influence on the product’s technical functionality.

Maintenance Painting:

Surfaces painted with Finngard Silicate Paint can be re-painted with Finngard Silicate Paint or Kivitex Silicate Paint.

Maintenance Instructions

Dirty surfaces can be carefully washed with a pressure washer without any detergent no earlier than one month after painting. The washing may leave permanent marks on the surface, so wash a logical area following the lines of the structure in order to avoid leaving conspicuous edges. Loose dirt can be gently brushed off with a soft brush without rubbing. Remove mold or algae with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto and rinse well. NB. Surfaces must always be retreated after mold removal.

VOC

(cat A/a) 30g/l (2010) Finngard Silikaattipohjuste contains VOC max. 30g/l.

A1 Fire safety

The silicate paint for mineral walls meets the strict A1 fire safety requirements. Finngard Silikaattimaali is manufactured in accordance with the DIN 18363 standard, which means that it contains very little organic matter.

Breathable coat

Thanks to its superior water vapor permeability, the product is suitable for challenging humid spaces. It is ideal for painting concrete, lime and lime-cement render and sand-lime brick surfaces, and also suitable for surfaces previously treated with lime, lime-cement, cement or silicate paints.

Easy-to-use silicate paint

Finngard Silikaattimaali is easy to use, as the separate components do not need to be mixed together.
