Description

Inorganic, potassium-silicate-based primer for facades before painting with silicate paint.

Product Features

Residential, commercial, industrial and storage buildings and others. Also suitable for special sites such as air-raid shelters, water towers, underpasses, etc.

Recommended Uses

For the interior and exterior priming of concrete, lime, lime cement, cement plaster and sand-lime brick surfaces. Also suitable for substrates previously painted with lime, lime cement, cement or silicate paint. See the directions for use.

Coverage

The coverage of the mixture is 2–4 m²/l for a single coat, when used as a 1:2 mixture with paint. The coverage of the mixture is 1–3 m²/l for a single coat, when used as a separate 1:1 priming solution with water. Coverage is affected by the roughness and porosity of the surface as well as the application method and conditions.

Thinner

Waterborne

Application Conditions

The surface to be primed must be clean and solid, the temperature of the air and surface at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. To avoid color differences, do not prime in strong sunlight or in the rain.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces: New concrete surfaces must be sufficiently dry and hard before the surface treatment. Concrete element surfaces should not be primed earlier than after one heating period, depending on the structure. New plaster surfaces must be dry and hardened before painting. The drying and hardening time depends, among other things, on the consistency of the plaster used (such as the ratio of lime and cement), drying and hardening conditions and the thickness of the plaster layer. Clean the unpainted surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. If the formation of salt is very strong and continuous, the surfaces must not be treated before the cause of salt formation has been eliminated. Wash moldy, mossy and similar surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto according to the directions for use, working from the bottom up. Concrete surfaces that have been cast with formwork must be treated mechanically (e.g. sand-blasted) to create an appropriate surface profile. Remove any glassy and glossy cement stone from the surface using sand-blasting, a grinding stone for grinding concrete or pressure cleaning with added sand. Previously painted surfaces: Clean the surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. If the substrate forms salts, the surfaces must not be treated before the cause of salt formation has been eliminated. Wash moldy, mossy and similar surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto according to the directions for use, working from the bottom up. Previous paint or coatings with organic binding agents must be removed completely, for example with paint stripper and pressure washing with hot water or sand-blasting. Remove any flaking, poorly adhering or powdery coats of lime, lime cement, cement or silicate paint from previously painted surfaces. Choose the removal method according to the strength of the substrate and type of paint to be removed (e.g. wire brush, pressure washing with hot water or wet sand-blasting). Also remove any poorly adhered, fragile areas of plaster or concrete. In concrete structures, open any cracks over the reinforcement steel bars by chiseling or with an edge grinder, etc. Clean the bars of rust and continue treatment with Finnseco repair mortars. Surfaces that are not meant to be primed, such as glass panes, natural stone and clinker-tiled facades and metal surfaces must be covered for the duration of priming. Wash any spatter immediately off with clean water. When treating a substrate containing asbestos, follow the Government Decision on Asbestos Work (1380/1994) and the related Decrees 318/2006 and 863/2010.

Painting

First coat:

Apply the mixture on the surface with a brush, paint roller or by spraying. Paint the treated surface. The surface may be painted one day after priming at the earliest.
