Description

Water-borne, nano-size primer based on acrylate hydrosol.

Product Features

Suitable for untreated or previously painted aggregate surfaces. Tikkurila Hydrosolipohjuste penetrates well into the pores of the substrate, strengthens it, evens out its absorbency and improves the adhesion of the finishing paint. Primer for Finnseco Pikatasoite. Also suitable as a primer for Finnseco Polytop mortars in demanding conditions when pre-wetting of the substrate is insufficient or not possible.

Recommended Uses

Interior and exterior aggregate surfaces of residential, commercial and storage properties.

Coverage

4–8 m²/l. Coverage is affected by the roughness and porosity of the surface along with the previous coating.

Thinner

Waterborne

Application Method

brush, spraying

Application Conditions

The temperature of the ambient air, surface and primer should not fall below + 5°C during either priming or drying. The relative humidity of air should not exceed 80%. Do not apply the product onto a wet or non-absorbent surface.

Surface preparation

Unpainted surfaces: New concrete surfaces must be sufficiently dry and hard before the surface treatment. Concrete element surfaces should not be treated earlier than after one heating period, depending on the structure. New plaster surfaces must be dry and hardened before painting. The drying and hardening time depends, among other things, on the consistency of the plaster used (such as the ratio of lime and cement), drying and hardening conditions and the thickness of the plaster layer. Clean the unpainted surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. If the formation of salt is very strong and continuous, the surfaces must not be treated before the cause of salt formation has been eliminated. Wash moldy, mossy and similar surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto according to the directions for use, working from the bottom up. Concrete surfaces that have been cast with formwork must be treated mechanically (e.g. sand-blasted) to create an appropriate surface profile. Remove any glassy and glossy cement stone from the surface using sand-blasting, a grinding stone for grinding concrete or pressure cleaning with added sand. Previously painted surfaces: Clean the surfaces of any dirt, dust and salt. If the substrate forms salts, the surfaces must not be treated before the cause of salt formation has been eliminated. Wash moldy, mossy and similar surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto according to the directions for use, working from the bottom up. Remove any flaking, poorly adhering or powdery paint coats (such as lime paint) from the previously painted surface. Choose the removal method according to the strength of the substrate and type of paint to be removed (e.g. wire brush, pressure washing with hot water or wet sand-blasting). Also remove any poorly adhering, fragile plaster or concrete. In concrete structures, open any cracks over the reinforcement steel bars by chiseling or with an edge grinder, etc. Clean the bars of rust and continue treatment with Finnseco Tartuntalaasti and Finnseco Pikatasoite.

Painting

First coat:

Mix the primer well before use. Apply Hydrosolipohjuste undiluted before painting. You have applied enough primer when it has been absorbed into the pores of the substrate and there is no glossy, lacquer-like film on the surface. When using Hydrosolipohjuste under Finnseco mortars on highly water-absorbent substrates (e.g. Siporex), the Hydrosolipohjuste is thinned with water (max. 1:1).

Acrylate hydrosol based primer

Use for priming new or previously painted mineral surfaces. Can be used on Siporex surfaces thinned with water (max. 1: 1).

Good penetration in to the substarte

The product evens out the absorbency of the substrate, strengthens the substrate and improves the adhesion of the topcoat.

Can be used as a primer for leveling mortars

Primer for Finnseco Pikatasoite and Finnseco Polytop. Can be used as a primer for leveling mortars when normal pre-wetting is not sufficient (eg. hot and dry weather conditions).
