Temafloor PU ESD coating system

A flexible and highly durable polyurethane coating system that protects against electrostatic discharge

What is an electrostatic discharge (ESD) coating system?

Temafloor PU ESD is a polyurethane coating system that protects against electrostatic discharge. It forms a self-levelling 2 mm layer that is flexible, highly durable and chemically resistant.

Why an ESD coating is needed?

The Temafloor PU ESD system ensures safety and efficiency in areas where static electricity and sparks pose a danger to sensitive equipment. The system is suitable for the electronics industry, power production plants and data centre IT rooms.

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) coating system

Main benefits of the system

•    Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection
•    Flexible, impact resistant and highly durable
•    Impermeable with a chemical-resistant top layer
•    Forms an easy-to-clean smooth gloss surface
•    Meets the requirements of IEC-EN 61340-5-1

Temafloor PU ESD is available in these colours: grey TVT 0229, light grey RAL 7035 and dusty grey RAL 7037.

The Temafloor PU ESD system is M1-classified and CE marked with a Declaration of Performance according to EN 1504-2 for the surface protection of concrete. The system meets the requirements of IEC-EN 61340-5-1.

How to apply an ESD coating system

Temafloor PU ESD coating system structure, 2 mm

1. Primer:

Temafloor 402M or Fontefloor EP 100 (~0.25 l/m2

For damp concrete (RH > 97%): Temafloor 220W Primer

ESD tape installation

2. Conductive primer:

Fontefloor EP ESD Primer (0.3 l/m2)

3. Conductive topcoat:

Temafloor PU ESD (2.0 l/m2)

Application conditions

The relative humidity of the concrete should not exceed 97%.
Residual moisture content: <4 weight-%.
The temperature of the ambient air, surface and coating should not fall below +15°C during application or drying.
The relative humidity of the air should not exceed 70% during application and drying.
Substrate tensile strength:  >1.5 MPa.

Preparation

Preparation

Prepare the concrete by removing any grease, oil and dirt with Tikkurila Maalipesu

Remove laitance and old peeling paint layers by power grinding, milling or vacuum grit blasting. Remove all loose material and dust using a vacuum cleaner. Make sure floors are dry before priming.

Priming

Priming

Apply Temafloor 402M primer.

Thoroughly mix the Temafloor 402M base and hardener together in a 2:1 ratio by volume using a low-speed industrial hand drill with a paddle*. The mixture should be used within 20 mins of combining the components.
Pour the primer mixture onto the floor and apply enough to impregnate the concrete surface. If necessary, repeat priming to get a non-porous surface.

Conductive tape installation

Conductive tape installation

Attach adhesive copper tape to the floor to ensure earthing to the grounding points. Use two 1.5–2 m tape strips for each 150 m2 area.

Conductive priming

Apply the conductive Fontefloor EP ESD Primer

Stir the base before adding the hardener. Thoroughly mix the Fontefloor EP ESD Primer base and hardener together in a 3.2:1 ratio by volume using a low-speed industrial hand drill with a paddle*. The mixture should be used within 50 mins of combining the components.
Pour the primer mixture onto the floor, apply and level with a roller.

measure conductivity

Resistivity measuring

Measure resistivity using a surface resistance meter before applying topcoat.

Topcoating

Apply the topcoat Temafloor PU ESD

Stir the base before adding the hardener.
Thoroughly mix the Temafloor PU ESD base and hardener together in a 2.5:1 ratio by volume*. The mixture should be used within 15 mins of combining the components.
Pour the mixture onto the floor and apply a 2 mm thick layer with an adjustable trowel. Level with a spiked roller, if needed.

Conductivity measurement

Resistivity measurement

Measure resistivity using a surface resistance meter. Readings should be <100 MΩ.
The painted surface will achieve its final hardness and durability after one week at room temperature.

*Prepare the mixture according to the instructions given in the product data sheet.

Remember

Remember

•    Follow application instructions on  product data sheets
•    Insufficient mixing or an incorrect mixing ratio will result in uneven surface drying. This will weaken the properties of the coating
•    If the primed floor is not painted over within 24 hours, it should be sanded down
•    Don’t forget to measure the conductivity before applying the topcoat
