A hygienic and calming environment at the hospital
Tikkurila paints help to provide the best possible environment for patients at Latvia’s largest hospital.
Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital is the largest healthcare institution in Latvia, providing comprehensive medical care for patients as well as carrying out innovative scientific research and training future healthcare professionals. Every year, the hospital provides healthcare services to 55,000 inpatients and 840,000 outpatients, with almost 5000 employees working in the facility.
A better patient experience
In order to provide the best possible environment for patients, students and staff, nine of the hospital’s 11 floors were recently renovated. The total area included in the renovation project was over 13,000 square meters, including technology, furniture and replacement of utilities in the treatment wards, attic and basement.
The renovated wards have been equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and patient monitoring systems to improve the patient experience. The heating and air conditioning systems have been redesigned as hot and cold panels, preventing unwanted airflow from disturbing patients who are unable to leave their beds.
Hygienic and easy to clean
The surfaces in the corridors, wards and administration block were also renewed. To ensure the highest possible hygiene standards, Tikkurila Argentum Plus 20 paint was used for the walls. This water-based, semi-matte paint for interior walls and ceilings is hard-wearing, chemical and scratch resistant, and dries to an attractive finish.
Not only can Argentum Plus 20 be safely cleaned with the powerful detergents and disinfectants commonly used in hospitals, it also contains active silver phosphate glass that prevents bacteria and viruses from growing or multiplying on the painted surface. Argentum Plus 20 has very low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and is M1-classified, certifying it is safe for use in environments where indoor air quality is critical.
A calm and tranquil finish
The walls of the hospital departments were painted in cheerful and calming shades from the Tikkurila Symphony colour chart: neutral cream G487 was used as a base shade in corridors and wards, while accent walls were painted in blue (V431), green (S440), orange (M402) and yellow (K398). The administration block was painted a soothing off-white (X487).
The renovation project has been a success, with both patients and staff appreciating the fresh, new look. The easy-to-clean nature of Tikkurila Argentum Plus with its high wear resistance is keeping the walls looking their best – and it will do for many years to come.
