A brand new look for a beautiful home
Although the paintwork of her house was in good condition, the decision was made to repaint as a preventive maintenance measure.
Kirkkonummi is located about 30 km from Helsinki city centre, on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland. Heidi has been living in the town for the last three years, in a beautiful three-storey home that was built by the previous owners 17 years earlier.
Early maintenance is a cost-effective choice
Although the paintwork of her house was in good condition, Heidi decided it was time to repaint as a preventive maintenance measure. Painting the house now meant that only one layer of paint was needed. Waiting a few more years might have meant two layers were required, which would have been more expensive.
The right paint for façade and roof
The professional painting company Heidi chose to do the work typically use another brand’s products for similar projects. However, due to the type of plaster used on the building, the salesman recommended Tikkurila products as the best choice.
The painters were pleased with this decision because they find Tikkurila products easy to apply and like the fact they don’t leave streaks on the surface. In total there was approximately 400 m2 of façade to be painted and colours were chosen from the Tikkurila Façade 760 colour card.
Façade painting: Tikkurila Finngard Clean-julkisivumaali, a waterborne, silicone resin paint with a highly hydrophobic surface that repels soil and water, keeping the structure clean and dry, even in extreme weather conditions. Facade colour: Q824. Plinth colour: Q859.
Roof painting: Tikkurila Isonit 12-20-50, a waterborne, high-coverage roof coating that extends the life of tile roofs. Colour: Red tile.
Terrace coating: Valtti Plus Terrace Oil, an oil treatment that protects wood against UV damage and makes treated surfaces highly durable. Ready-made colour: Ash Grey.
Balcony railings painting: Tikkurila Unica Ulkokalustemaali, a special alkyd paint creates a durable finish for exterior wood and metal surfaces and has excellent outdoor stress resistance properties Colour: Graphite grey, RAL 7024.

A house that looks as good as new
Heidi is extremely pleased with the result of the maintenance work. “We are glad that we made the proactive decision to paint the house now instead of waiting,” she says. “Waiting would have likely meant that two coats of paint were needed instead of just one, with the resultant higher costs. While the house wasn’t in poor condition previously, it now appears exceptionally tidy and almost as if it were brand new!”
The project lasted about two weeks and the two-person painting team enjoyed using the products. They also felt much more confident about achieving an excellent result due to the high quality of Tikkurila products.
